The Stoneridge School prides itself on providing enriching educational experiences beyond the classroom. One of the most anticipated events of the school year is the annual study and fan tour trips, where pupils get the chance to see and experience firsthand what they’ve learned in their lessons. This year’s tour, held on June 28th, 2024, was no exception, offering a blend of education and adventure for our Primary 5 and Primary 6 classes.

Unveiling Water Transport at Kiyindi Landing Site

Our first stop was the Kiyindi Landing Site, located on the picturesque shores of Lake Victoria in Buikwe District. Here, pupils engaged with staff from the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), who provided detailed insights into water transport on Lake Victoria. This hands-on learning experience was enhanced by interactions with local fishermen, who shared their personal experiences and challenges of fishing in the lake.

One of the highlights was visiting the MV Ferry, a vital transportation link between the mainland and Buvuma District. Pupils were amazed to learn that the ferry can carry up to 25 vehicles and 400 passengers per trip, making the 30-minute journey across the lake. They had the opportunity to explore the ferry, guided by one of its caretakers, who explained its operation and the physics behind its construction. The fact that transportation on the ferry is free, subsidized by the government through UNRA, was an intriguing revelation for many. The pupils also captured these moments in photos, preserving cherished memories from the trip.

Agricultural Insights at the Uganda Agricultural Trade Show

Next, the tour took us to the Uganda Agricultural Trade Show in Jinja. This annual event brings together various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including schools, regulatory authorities, government bodies, and private businesses. Pupils had the chance to see a wide array of agricultural produce and innovations, gaining a deeper understanding of the sector’s dynamics. They interacted with exhibitors, learned about different agricultural practices, and discovered the importance of agriculture in our economy.

Adventure and Fun at Sezibwa Falls

The final leg of the trip was at Sezibwa Falls in Mukono, a location renowned for its scenic beauty and adventure activities. The falls, a tributary of the River Nile, provided a stunning backdrop for the day’s activities. Pupils were thrilled to participate in rock climbing, an activity that many were experiencing for the first time. Despite its challenges, rock climbing emerged as the most enjoyable part of the trip for most pupils. The sense of accomplishment and the joy of overcoming a new challenge left lasting impressions on everyone.

A Day of Discovery and Fun

The 2024 study and fan tour trip was a remarkable success, blending educational insights with memorable adventures. These experiences not only reinforced classroom learning but also provided pupils with a broader perspective of the world around them. As we look forward to next year’s trip, we remain committed to creating enriching and enjoyable learning experiences for our pupils.
