At The Stoneridge School, we believe that hands-on learning and real-world experiences are essential to a well-rounded education. Our yearly fun and study tour trips are designed to give students the opportunity to see and experience the subjects they learn in the classroom, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around them. This year’s tour, held on June 14th, 2024, was an unforgettable journey for our P1 and P2 students, filled with educational discoveries and fun activities.
Namugongo Model Farm: A Lesson in Agriculture
Our first stop was the Namugongo Model Farm in Kira Municipality. Here, the students had the chance to immerse themselves in the world of agriculture. They explored animal husbandry, visited a fishing model pond, and learned about various types of crops and farming practices. This hands-on experience allowed them to connect classroom lessons with real-life applications. The students were excited to interact with the farmers, who answered their questions and provided valuable insights into the agricultural practices they had studied.
Naalya Central Market: Discovering Plant-Based Foods
After leaving the farm, we made our way to Naalya Central Market. This stop was particularly enlightening for many students who had not seen a variety of plant-based foodstuffs up close. At the market, they were introduced to an array of plants and produce, enhancing their understanding of the food cycle from farm to table. The students’ excitement was palpable as they explored the market, with some even purchasing items to take home and share with their families.
Speke Resort Munyonyo: Experiencing Luxury and Hospitality
The next leg of our journey took us to the beautiful Speke Resort Munyonyo. Here, the students were given a tour of the resort’s stunning premises and met with various department managers and the resort’s proprietor. This visit provided them with a glimpse into the hospitality industry, showcasing the behind-the-scenes efforts that ensure guests have a memorable stay. The serene ambiance of the beachside resort offered a perfect backdrop for the students to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Mulungu Fish Fry: A Taste of Local Cuisine
Our final stop was the Mulungu Fish Fry market, located right next to the Speke Resort. At this bustling market, the students met local fishermen and learned about the fishing industry. They witnessed firsthand how fish is caught, fried, and sold to eager customers. The highlight of this visit was the opportunity to ride in boats on the lakeside, creating exciting photo opportunities and lasting memories. The students also enjoyed a delicious lunch at the market, savoring freshly fried fish and local delicacies.

The 2024 fun and study tour trips were a resounding success, offering our P1 and P2 students a day filled with educational experiences and joyful moments. These trips are more than just outings; they are integral to our commitment to providing a holistic education that goes beyond the classroom.
