In the spirit of blending education with adventure, The Stoneridge School organized a captivating study tour for its P3 and P4 pupils on June 19, 2024. This annual tradition of fan and study tours provides students with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the concepts they learn in the classroom, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of their studies. This year’s destinations included the Entebbe International Airport, Uganda National Meteorological Authority, and Kasenyi Landing Site, each offering a distinct educational experience coupled with fun activities.

Entebbe International Airport: Unveiling the World of Aviation

The first stop of the day was at Uganda’s main airport, Entebbe International Airport. Pupils were thrilled to explore the various facets of airport operations. Guided tours took them through the bustling terminals and different lobbies, providing a glimpse into the daily life of an international airport. The highlight was the guided tour of the runways, where students learned about the intricacies of airplane operations and the significance of runway design. This visit not only demystified the workings of an airport but also ignited a sense of wonder and curiosity about aviation among the young learners.

Uganda National Meteorological Authority: Discovering Weather Science

Next, the pupils visited the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), a key institution in weather and climate services. Here, a government meteorologist engaged the students in an interactive lesson, explaining the importance and usage of various weather instruments. The pupils were fascinated by the insights into how weather forecasting is conducted and its critical role in aviation safety. They even visited the forecast news studios, met weather news readers, and explored the equipment and software used to prepare weather news for television. This visit was an eye-opener, revealing the science behind weather predictions and the seamless collaboration between the meteorological authority and the airport.

Kasenyi Landing Site: Learning by the Lake

The final destination was the Kasenyi Landing Site on the shores of Lake Victoria. This location offered a serene and educational environment where students learned about water transport and fishing. The pupils enjoyed the beach-like ambiance, making the learning experience even more enjoyable. They observed fishing activities, understood the importance of water transport, and relished the picturesque views of the lake. This hands-on experience enriched their understanding of aquatic life and the economic significance of fishing in Uganda.

A Day of Discovery and Delight

The study tour was a resounding success, providing the P3 and P4 pupils with a perfect blend of learning and enjoyment. Each location offered unique lessons, from the technicalities of aviation and weather science to the serene beauty of Lake Victoria. These trips not only enhanced the students’ knowledge but also created lasting memories of camaraderie and exploration.

As The Stoneridge School continues to prioritize experiential learning, these annual fan and study tours remain a cornerstone of our educational approach, inspiring young minds to learn, discover, and be inspired by the world around them.
